1). I pulled out the rack, I used a Dremmel to sand away the rust and went back to the good plastic.
2). I put some Rustmort on the rust to seal it up. (Rustmort is used to repair rust on Cars, you clean up most of the rust and put this stuff on, it has chemical reaction with the rust that seals it and make it paintable. Not sure if this step is absolutely necessary but I think it’s a good idea).
3). I sealed the metal back up with DAP epoxy that was good for 240 degrees.
It’s been a couple of weeks and this seems to be working like a charm. If you have this problem and want to save yourself the cost of a new rack give it a try.
