When I was a kid I remember seeing a movie involving goblins and darkness. Something about a king dying, and darkness enveloping the land. I don't have many details, except a brief memory of a segment... the boy/man (main character) took a boat to an island and then was circled by goblins/the enemy.
So far I know its not...

A young hunter wandering through the forest in pusuit of a deer is magicaly transported to the fairy kingdom by fairy magic. The good faeires must enlist his help in a battle between the good faeries and the forces of darkness led by the kings rouge evil magical shadow.
The story was inspired by the artwork of artist Brian Froud.
