First use of season, 145 hp B&S engine doesn't start. Got sparks, gas isn't getting to plug. I have gas flow beyond the fuel filter, however.

Gummed up carb, I dare say. Needs cleaning, especially the main jet since that is what would prevent from getting to the plug even if it was not in the correct quantity.

Agreed, drop the bowl and clean it out. Also remove, clean and reinstall the needle valve. Was there junk in the bowl?

You might try some sea foam.
