Title of the Book or Author's Name
When I took an exam in English there was a part on literature, and in it was a segment from a book. The segment intrigued me, and after a while I began to have the urge to read it, but I couldn't remember the title of the book or the author's name. This has been bugging me for about half a year now.. .

I would greatly appreciate any assistance in figuring out the said missing information.

All that I remember (though possible incorrectly) from the segment is that it takes place early to mid 20th century London, and it's about two young males who are waiting for their dates. The name of one of them is Romero or Romeo. They talk about the girls; something about them (their dates) living in an orphanage, and the possibility that they (the girls/their dates) may have fooled them (the young fellows) and do not actually intend to come. One of them (the young fellows) says, "Maybe they just couldn't get permission to leave," to which the other replies "If a girl wants to see you, she'll find a way out."

This is about as much as I can remember. The desire to read this book just doesn't seem to wither in the least; it actually grows strong every day, in spite of the fact that it's been over half a year since I've done the exam. Damn, the will to read it is immense. Oh how I would love to receive some replies.. .

Thank you in advance for any attempt to bring me one step closer to Nirvana!

Do you remember the name of the teacher and the class you were in? Can you contact that teacher to find out the info from the exam?

It wasn't in a classroom. It was another thing altogether. And yes, I've tried contacting them, but they either don't respond or tell me to off.
