Unwed father trying not to lose his unborn child to an unfit mother.
I am from alberta and want to Know what rights I have to my unborn daughter. My ex and I have never lived together because I was nervous About her suicidal tendencies and constant drug abuse.she has 3 other children which are under the care of her mother and sister.I have about 3 months till she is born so I decided to help her with her rent.Turns out I just helped fuel her cocaine habit.I then decided to let her move into my house but she would not agree to a cohabilitation document.now she plans to move into a women's shelter or into a house with a couple of potsmoking guyfriends.I don't know which.I dread losing my child to this women or even worse, lose her to the system. Is there any way I can be a part of this kids life.

Hi, Zach, are you perhaps native Canadian. Please don't be offended, I am Canadian too, but not entirely native.

We probably can give you directions you have to go. Mostly the directions you can go are to government agencies and if you are native then, you get bogged down with procedures and paperwork.

I wish you luck, if this woman is still doing cocaine while she is pregnant, chances are that your child will not go unscathed, and at the very least, be born addicted to the cocaine as well.

Yes you should wish him luck. It isn't like he is not trying to dig himself out of that circumstance. Talk about doomsday. For sure. I think he knows what is going to happen, that's why he is posting here.

Yes, after child is born ( not much you can do now) but you will have to file for custody as soon as the child is born

Please pay more attention to posting guidelines. There is a Read First sticky in the Children forum (where this was moved from) that directs questions of a legal nature to this forum.

You would be best served retaining a Family Law attorney in your area. They can guide you into what needs to be done. If you go it alone you need to do a lot of research into what the laws are in your area. You need to research the courts and find out the procedures. You have 3 months to prepare your case. As noted, you will need to file for custody as soon as the child is born.
