I've been on H1 since July'06. When I opened the bank savings account I didn't have the US address (stayed at the hotel) so I opened with Foreign address. I've never had any interest income more than $10 for any year. Until 2009 I wasn't requested by the bank to send any such forms.

In 2009, I received the request from W-8BEN form from my bank but I explained them that I'm a resident alien and they said no need to send the W-8BEN. I left it at that. This year they again sent me the request to send the W-8BEN form. After a little bit research I understood I have to send W9 form.

Why W9 is required even if I'm on H1B visa? Is it okay to send the W9 form if an alien is on H1B visa? Would I receive 1099 form at the end of the tax year If I send the W9 form?

Yes, you will file W-9.
