Possible pregnancy with a Mirena IUS?
Hi there, I am 23 with a Mirena IUS that I have had since Dec 2006 to ease my hideous periods and my endometriosis / polycystic ovary pain. I had awful pain and bleeding for 3 months when I had it inserted to the point where I could not get out of bed but since then I have not had periods and it has eased the pain I was getting. However 2 months ago I had a period and then 4 weeks ago another. I have been for a scan and they said the coil was in the right place and also took a swab, they did say that they could not locate my ovaries on the ultrasound though! They agreed to change it even though it is over 18 months earlier than necessary, I just have to call when I start my next period. Now I have really tender breasts and I am concerned about pregnancy! Is this at all possible?

You've had a new coil put in?

No method is absolutely 100% guaranteed, but the odds are against you being pregnant. It's much more likely that the fresh coil had given you a higher dose of hormone, which is what is causing the tender breasts.
