Kenmore series 80 model 11025842400 washer. Machine fills with water and does wash agitate perfectly, then it is supposed to stop, reverse motor and do neutral drain and after pumping water out enter spin cycle. Instead it starts to spin very slowly and pump water and is making a clicking sound while pumping out water for 1 minute 15 seconds, then clicking noise stops and spin speeds up to finish spin. Then rinse cycle fills, agitates correctly and then instead of neutral spin it starts to spin slowly pumping water with the clicking noise for 1 minute 15 seconds, clicking stops spin speed increases to normal and finishes spin correctly

There is a part in the transmission that is worn out. There is a kit to repair it but it is easier and quicker just to replace it. Is it your motor that is clicking? It should not make any clicking noise if it is spinning in drain with water in the tub. Your clutch will slip a little more until there is less weight in the tub. You may have a motor problem as well.

The clicking is the suspension springs popping under the stress of centrifugal force due to the weight of all the water. Remember the washer isn't supposed to spin when its full of water. That's why the clicking stops when the water is gone. FYI, if use continues with no neutral drain, the clutch (Whirlpool part number 285753) will wear to a point where even if you replaced the transmission (Whirlpool part number 3360629), it then still wouldn't spin very well.

At first I couldn't tell where the noise was coming from, so I removed the agitator and again tested, and the noise was coming from below the tub so I removed the pump and tested the cycles and the clicking noise was coming from the motor, and there was a slight jerk in the motor with every click and it would do this about a minute and 15 seconds and sounding like a relay trying to start the motor while it was running slow, and then stopped the clicking and sped up to correct spin speed. Other than the first test wash all testing is done without clothes and water to avoid damage from overload. In the test with water and clothes it still had about half of the water remaining when clicking stopped and the spin increased and the remainder of the water was pumped out.

Sounds like a timer problem. There are 2 contacts in the timer that deal with motor function in a particular direction. One feeds the "run" winding and the other feeds proper polarity to the "start" winding. The centrifugal switch takes the start winding out once the motor reaches operating speed and then the run winding keeps it running. If the timer doesn't supply power to the run winding, the start winding will start the motor but once the centrifugal switch actuates and kills the "start", the motor will stop. When the motor slows down, the centrifugal switch resets and that makes the motor start again, hence the rapid "double clicking" of the motor switch. I guess it could also be burned contacts in the motor switch or a wire/connector problem as well, but in my experience it tends to be related to timer malfunction.

The part number for the clutch is wrong... thats a drive coupler. Oops.
