New Mama Cat had kittens in litter box
Hello... I am a little freaked out. We took in a stray that was pg. I knew she was probably close to delivery and I was right 2 weeks later and they have arrived. I do believe this cat is very young and her first litter. We kept her on our enclosed porch so she would deliver there instead of hiding them in the barn. Well this morning I awoke to look for her. She was visible so I lifted the top of our dome litter box and there she was... curled up in ball with 3 kittens! She is a dirty mess as well as one of the kittens.
My question is should I bath them or let them be for a while?

God, don't wash them. They are so young, that would kill them. She will take care of everything. I know its looks gross, but kittens have been delivered in worse places then a litter box. Don't touch.

    Actually.. You can wash them.

I wash infant puppies all the time when the mama is dirty. I wash them in the sink with luke warm water. I don't draw a bath, just use the faucet. Keep their heads dry. Wash them AVEENO baby wash. Dry them very good and hold them until they are completely dry. Never let them get chilled. Bath time usually takes a good hour or so. Move mom and her babies into a very warm, secure place. Don't be too much of a stranger with these babies, you want them to feel comfortable being held. Trust starts from day one! Continue to mess with them. If you fiddle with them while their infants, they're going to recognize your touch, smell and soon your voice the min their eyes open. It's a thing of the past where you can't handle infant babies.

    Good luck
