Lawn Tractor won't start, no sound when turning the key?
Battery newly tested (ok). MTD model with Briggs & Straton engine. Was moving the lawn, shut off to empty bags, won't start after that?
    Help!

I experienced the same problem. Troubleshooting consisted of testing/charging the battery, jumping the solenoid, checking the seat, blade disengage and brake switches and still nothing. I then decided to use a pair of jumper cables to test the starter since bypassing the solenoid didn't yield any results, which sound essentially the same as using the jumper cable, but with one exception. I connected the cables to the starter accordingly (red to + and black to the bracket bolting the starter to the engine case), then I connected the other ends directly to the battery terminals. As soon as I connected the positive (+) the starter came to life. So you think it's the solenoid, right? Wrong. The only thing I added to the equation was a solid ground to the battery. I removed the ground cable at the frame, sanded a bare metal spot at the bolt hole opening just big enough to make contact with the grounding connector, reattached the ground and problem solved.

Not quite sure why it posted my response 3 times, but I apologize for that.
