What size breaker to run 14/7 amp motor?
I hooked up a power hammer in my shop that has a 1.5hp 14/7 amp phase 1 motor. When I turn it on and engage the belt on the motor it pops the 20amp main breaker in the main panel in the house. It looks like I'm not getting enough power for the motor lift the 75lb hammer head before the breaker blows. This motor is a 110/220 so would I have to run 220 in to it?

It would run more efficiently on 240 than 120. Have you confirmed that there is not fault with this motor. It could be drawing more than the specs just due to old age and failing windings. Did it work elsewhere before, if so what gauge wire and breaker were they using?

It was rebuilt just before I got it and it came out of a industrial blower system and is on warranty.I just found out that the powerhead on the hammer is sticking on the upword stroke so I took it apart and it was gooped up in the track area so I'm going to clean that first and replace the bolts before getting back to the motor.Just wondered about the motor anyway... I don't know about electrical things.. so thanks

Is it wired for the correct voltage?
Any other info on the nameplate such as sf?
How far away from the power panel?
