    Secondary Electrical Grounds
We have a boat lift appx 200 yards from our house that is connected to our house electric panel using #2 aluminum triplex cables. The ground wire to the lift system has corroded, and we are considering grounding it at our dock with a ground rod, instead of digging a 200 yard trench and replacing one of the cables.

Are we creating a hazard or problem for this system?

    Thanks,

    Gib.

The whole 200 yards of ground is bad? or can you get to a solid piece of wire to attach to.
Sounds like a nice piece of Property.

A ground rod DOES NOT provide a ground in the sense that you think it does. You need an equipment ground and a ground rod has nothing to do with this. It serves a completely different purpose.

    Either repair or replace it.
