We have just gone through an amazing rain and wind storm and all of a sudden the two toilets on our main floor have stopped flushing properly. The upstairs toilet is fine. The two toilets on the main floor (we are on a slab if that matters) flush but do not drain fully. They leave solid matter behind. If we leave the toilets for a lengh of time (an hour or so) the water levels go to normal and if we flush once they are fine. If we flush any more the same drainage problem happens. Our house is less than a year old so the problem cannot be old pipes. Could it have something to do with the wind and rain storm and the fact that our subdivision has its own sewage facility? I only ask this because we have lost power a couple of times already with the storm and I'm not sure if the sewage facility has lost power or not. But would a loss of power at that facility cause this to happen? Oh another fact is that our shower had water drain back into it and then emptied again. Very strange. Help!

If what you're saying is the shower backed up and slowly drained away then you have a partial blockage downstream from the shower.
You may snake this from one of two locations.
1) You can snake from the lavatory roof vent **OR**
2) You can remove the shower strainer and snake from the drain.
About your toilets, call the sewage company and ask if the power was down for a while. If they had no problem then I would open up the house cleanout and flush the toilets a few times. There should be no standing water or backup in the sewer line. If there is click on back and tell me about it. Good luck, Tom

Thanks Tom. We checked the clean out line in the yard and when we took the top off it was filled to the top and spilled out. That line goes down 8 feet to the main sewer line. Now are toilets and running fine. We have contacted the developers and let them know the problem. We are hoping they will fix this in the next day or two. For now, at least, we are able to release the pressure and get our plumbing to work. Here's a question for you though, what would cause that sewer line to get plugged up like that? Is it possible from the wind storm some debrey entered the system?

You're discharging your sewage out the clean out onto the lawn.
That's a violation that should be looked after ASAP.

More then likely roots at the city raiser. Is your storm water runoff connected to your sewer line? Let me know, Tom

I guess I should have worded that a bit better. We did put the lid back on right away and notifed the developer of the problem. They have looked after it thankfully.
