Felony conviction expunged / sealed : Can I get a job with IRS?
I haven't seen a situation similar to my question so...
I was convicted 23 years ago as a teenager. I've had no other instances. I've held a consistent job for years. The only break in employment was the 3 months I spent in the penn while I was in college. I've held professional positions. The crime was not murder or theft or anything that would cause me to register as a sex offender. The legal system was sympathetic to my situation and gave me the ability to have my record expunged and sealed. But I have ALWAYS wanted to go work for the IRS. Would that be possible to do with an expunged and sealed felony conviction? Does the IRS require a security clearance?

    Hello spade:

Expunged is only hidden from public view. I highly doubt your record was "sealed", though. Given that the IRS ISN'T the public, if they DO have a background/security check, and I'll bet they do, they'll find it.

Thanks con. It was officially sealed after I completed the deferred portion of my sentence. I was notified by the state judicial court. So I am confident there. Does anyone know if this would prevent employment with the IRS?
