I went to the hospital 4 days ago was told I have a herniated disk in my lower back, now for the past 2 days I'm having pains in my ribs when I take a deep breath. Is this normal?

It is normal, because the rest of your body is protesting that herniated disk. That part of your spine can't function, so it puts stress on your other attachments, like your ribs. What did they advise you to do about it? As far as I know herniated discs are extremely difficult to work around.

They just said to do light activities, not to lay on back lay on my side, just to take it easy.

Did they give you anything for the pain? If it starts to really bother you I would go back for some meds.
