Typically no. You see it takes 3-5 days for the sperm to go from the vaginal canal up through the uterus and into the fallopian tube where the egg is fertilized. Then it takes another 3-5 days for the fertilized egg to travel back down the fallopian tube where it implants in the uterus. So we have an average of 6-10 days here before implantation actually occurs.

So, typically no, she won't get symptoms in a week.

She may have lied about her period being late, or her period actually was late. Late periods happen for many reasons, not just pregnancy.
