What to file 1040EZ or 1040NR-EZ for J-1
    Hi,

I left US on Nov. 2009 and moved to my home country India. I was in US since 2004 on J-1 visa. I am married. Since 2007, I have been living continuously in USA. Last year I filed 1040EZ. Do I need to file 1040EZ as well or do I have to file 1040NREZ. I am bit confused, hence I stated my case as complete as possible. Thanks a lot for your help.

    Thanks.
    Shas

    Shas:

If you were a trainee or intern of some type, the J-1 exemption expired in 2005, and your filing of Form 1040EZ in 2008 is okay.

If you were a student, you should have filed Form 1040NR-EZ for 2008.

For 2009, you can file Form 1040EZ, because your student exempt status expired on 31 December 2008.
