Just this past week (after dealing the Utilities Company here in Washington and the "call before you Dig" number) I had a plumber come to my home and fix the main water line which had been badly leaking for quite some time. I was given a quote of $1450.00 and that it would take most of the day. The plumber came and fixed the leak only digging by the water meter by the sidewalk taking about 1 hr 15 minutes. Charge was still the same (did give me a $145.00 senior discount of my total with tax of $1568.90). Called plumber to see if amount would be less because of the amount of time it took. They advised that it wasn't any less - some of these jobs take longer because they run in to problems. There were no problems on my job. Should I have been charged less because of the time it took to repair my water pipe? Would appreciate your advice. Thank you. Joyce Thomson:)

For $1450 they should have replaced the water service from the meter to,the house.
For a simple repair, (and that's what it was) you should have been charged a service call plus time and material.
1:15 hours labor at $1450.00 is outrageous.
Complain loudly to the Better Business Bureau. Please keep me in the loop on this. I hate plumbers who pack the job. Tom
