Is therena wall locator like there is for finding stdds in walls for cable coax?
Yeah, but not like a stud finder. Stud finders actually measure density and can be thrown off by a few things in the wall.
What you're looking for is a tone generator.
This is an example: Amazon.com: Cable Wire Toner Tracer Tester Generator Signal Probe: Home Improvement
I've never used that particular one, so I'm not sure how well it will work.
Tone generators don't have a lot of range. They are usually used to identify a cable in a bunch. You need to have access to an end.
There are other ways to locate cables in a wall, but the technology is expensive.
I suppose another method could be a wall scope. You would need to put a small hole in the wall though. I think the ones with lights on them can get pretty expensive.
OP: Could you provide us some more details about what you are trying to do? Perhaps it might be easier to just run a new line? Some more details would help us give you a better idea of what tool might work best or if it is easier/cheaper to run a line.
