How to remove a nut from a cast iron pipe
I have a bath sink drain that tied into the cast iron vent pipe. The 1.5" lead pipe broke right at the point it tied into the vent pipe and it looks like a fitting that just screws into the vent pipe. I cannot get that loose. Any ideas on how to do that?

Another option I was considering... can I just plug that and run a drain line down to tie into the PVC shower drain line?

Thanks for any help on this.

This should be a brass fitting. Squirt some WD40 on the threads, apply heat to the hub and put some muscle on the pipe wrench.

That wopuld be a option, however to screw in a plug you would still have to remove the fitting from the threaded tee.
After you remove the fitting you could screw in a PVC male adapter and convert to PVC. Let me know what you decide. Good luck, Tom

    Tom,

Took your advice, still could not get that out. Of course using a pipe wrench on brass probably was not the best idea, really made a mess of it. Anyway, I'm going to plug it the best I can and run a new drain to tie into the shower drain. Thanks for the help.

If it were my call I'd take a sharp chisel and cut that sucker right out of there. Tom
