Relocation expenses - federal tax return
Hi,

My employer has considered rental car from airport to my new place of residence when I relocated as "taxable" part of relocation reimbursement.

But, the only cheapest mode of transport from airport to my new place of residence which is about 3 hours away is rental car. So, how do I now convey this to IRS through form 3903 (moving expense form) that it needs to be "non-taxable" moving income?

Please let me know at the earliest.

Thank you,

Kaushik

You should just give them a call, every relocation process is unique so the IRS proceeds differently in many cases. When I last moved with my job my entire relocation process was non-taxable, our company hired some international moving companies support and this made the process a lot easier for us.
