I have a doxin. He's 7 months old and I work all day usually 9-6ish.. and I can't take him out.. he poops on the floor & pees on the floor when I come home.. also when I take him out he won't go but then go like 20 min after being inside.. I give him praise when he pees on the piddle pads. What do I do..

You are going to have to make time to walk him (I hate piddle pads!). Piddle pads are a really lazy way to house train a dog.

Anyone who wants a dog, and a clean on in the house, takes time in the morning and evening to get him out for a walk, ultimately enjoyable for both parties.

Some advise crate training, but that is a long time for a young one to be in a crate without having a way of doing his business.

Be consistent and you will have a well trained dog.

Yup agree with Tickle here. Crate training is your best bet, unles you can barracade a section of your house off for the puppy. If you work long hours, you really should take an extra hour in the morning to walk your pooch before work. Just thik can YOU hold it for 9 hours? When you come home, take him out straight away. If 20 minuts doesn't cut it, then pull up a chair and wait longer. Wait as long as it takes for him to eliminate outside. Make sure to reward good behaviour with a SMALL treat and lots of love and pets.

Pee pads are one of the most confusing things for your dog. He thinks it's okay to pee in the house. You praise him one time, and scold another. Next he will learn that you like it when he pees on things, like towles left on the floor, clothes, carpet, toys etc... If you want your dog to be house broken, then be consistent and take him outside to do his business.

You're gone from 9-6 and you own a puppy??

Puppies are like babies. Would you leave your baby home alone for 8 hours a day? I doubt it. You need to find alternatives besides leaving him home alone.

He's pottying in the house because he has to go. He can't hold it 8 hours. You're not around enough to help him train his own bladder. House training puppies is a very involved task. Its training the puppy that its new home is its den, and you're training the bladder muscles to become stronger.

Crate training is ideal.. it keeps a good dog good, however, for your situation, I would highly suggest to put the pup in a mud room if you have one with a doggy door leading outside. You can purchase a small outside kennel and snug it up to the house so the dog has access outside without worrying you that he is going to get out, someone steal him or a bird of pray take him.

I can't really think of any other options that would work for your situation. Because even if you did the potty pad way, you still need to be there to make sure he is using it and teach him how to use it.

He is old enough now, maybe you should consider putting him in doggy daycare. Leaving a puppy home alone for 8-9 hours a day will cause your puppy to become weird. He won't be socialized and he will be very fearful of other people and dogs. Enrolling him in doggy daycare will ensure that he is getting socialized. Even if its 2 times a week, it still better then him sitting at home twiddling his thumbs. You also need to sign up for obedience classes. You need to excersize his mind. You need to create that bond. I know you're tired when you get home from work, but his day just started. You need to introduce pos. things in his life.

Also.. when you come home, and see his mess... don't get mad. It is ultimately your fault why he did it... and... if you can't catch him doing it, he doesn't understand why you're mad in the first place. Just clean it up and go about your business...

Reconsider buying another puppy... You really have no business owning a puppy working 8-9 hrs a day
