I recently got a phone call from a Collection Agency stating that I owe $700 from back in 2003. I vaguely remember an incident with an old roommate and our heat and hydro bill, but come on, it's been 7 years!!

First of all, how did this agency even find me? They used my maiden name when they called and our phone number is listed under my husband's name. Second of all, I am a stay at home mom and don't have any wages for them to garnish.

Do I really owe this collection agency anything?

If you had a debt and owed someone, it just does not go away, so if you owed it 7 years ago, you still owe it.

The only issue is that after the SOL, they can not sue you in court for a judgement, but that does not mean they can't call and write and more for in attempts to collect.
