I was told by my primary that I should get a prostate exam how does that work?
Ask your primary for a referral to a specialist who performs the exam. Most Proctologists will administer a drug, Verset, which will relax you and actually cause somewhat of a very short term amnesia. You will not remember being uncomfortable. During the exam, if they find issues like polops, they can do the repair right then during the exam.
And of course many primary physcians will do them during your annual exams. They are farily simple and not really that bad in the over all theme of life.
So far I had a digital exam by my primary. He just said he didn't like what he felt but didn't suggest a specialist yet. After watching that video I am more scared than ever.
Nothing to be scared of, in fact more to be scared if you don't
I am undergoing prostate treatment right now and believe me, you want to catch things early.
A lot of the work they do is also with ultrasound.
I guess I am looking at the long term. If they find something do they always take out the prostate? My dad's older brother had to have surgery in his 60s and nothing worked right after that. Wish I'd talked with him about it but I was just in my 20s, he died a few years later and now I'm in my 60s.
No, surgary is often the last thing, depends on what is wrong, and the reason it is wrong.
Enlargement, is it effecting the bladder getting empty. My bladder would only empty about 50 percent at most.
Is it effecting your sex drive or ability ?
There is medication, implants, other treatment and then of course surgary.
Catching it early enough ( of course depends on what is wong) is the key thing.
I was lucky, I have had a check done every year for the last 5 years. This came on about 8 months after my last check up.
What's there to be scared of. Look at the smile on the guys face getting the exam. You have a family history. Enough said.
One way that the prostrate is treated is with radiation pellets. Surgery can cause complications because of the proximitry to other areas; reproductive and urinary systems.
Catch it early.
Thanks for all the help. I'll check back with my primary and get name of a Urologist.
I'd be more scraed of what will happen if the issue the primary felt goes untreated. What is a Proctologist? It is unpleassant, not painful or dreadful. Like I sauid, they fix most small issues while you are undergoing the test.
