    I too have been looking for the answer... I recall dancing to it somewhere around '81-'82 but it may have been "older" even then... it's R&B type... similar to bands like Con Funk Shun, Lakeside, Brick, Commodores, Ohio Players, etc. They are male singers.
    This have driven me crazy for a while now.

    I'll be keeping an eye out to see if any answers appear!

    Two Bands that I know of. The most recent version is done by "The Bloodhound Gang" and the dance version is done by "To Kool Chris" back in '96 '97

    The roof is on fire is sang by Rockmaster Scott and The Dynamic Three. It was released in 1984, the other bands just released their own version of it.
