BOA took 16 months after we moved out to sell the house. The credit report is listing the debt to be removed in 2014 but BOA did not sell the house until August 2009. Which date should be used the date we were notified by the trustee company that they now took possession in May 2008 or the sell date of the house of August 2009

The date the lender took possession is when you no longer owned the property.

The date they took possession of it, you can go to the recorder of deed and see when the ownership was transferred
