I have applied for ITIN for my wifeand paper filed my returns. Currenlty I am wating for both. Now the state returns are due on 4/15 but cannot file the same until I have ITIN. And If I don't file state returns, I will be charged for late fee. Anybody can help me with this catch 22 situation and how do I avoid paying late fee?

To add, this is for AZ state.

If you are due a refund, there is NO penalty or late fee.

If you owe, make a payment for the amount owed while waiting for the ITIN.
