    it depends on the equation form.

    there's standard, point-slope, and my favorite- slope intercept

    You probably want to get it into slope-intercept form:


    m is slope.

    To do that, use your basic algebra to get y isolated to one side (like solving for y), and then x and any constants on the other side. Combine any like terms you may have, make sure the y is positive. The coefficient on the x is the slope (m).

    If it's in point-slope form then it's still the m.
