    Rattling cold tap
We recently fitted new taps to the sink and bathroom. The cold tap in the sink occasionally makes a loud noise and rattles when turned on a little way. Turn it further and the rattling stops. It doesn`t happen every time. What can it be?

It could be that you need to replace the rubber/plastic washer within the tap itself... I know you said these are new taps, but is it just that they are new to you or have possibly been damaged while fitting?

Thanks for that. I think we`ll just have to take it apart and see. They are brand new taps. We`ll see, thanks again.

This is called "seat chatter" and as a rule it's caused by a screw that not tight enough to secure the washer to the stem. Pull the cold water stem and washer assembly and check the screw. Good luck, Tom
