    Yamaha Maxim 400 service manual
    Hello,

Pretty much all I need to know is where I can find a PDF file for a 1983 Yamaha Maxim 400 service manual. To narrow it down in case no one knows where to find one, all I need to know for now is how to replace the chain and what oil type I should use.

    Thanks a mil,

Your best bet is bit torrent, but for a bike as old as yours I think you're bound to strike out. Search a bunch of sites, you might find one.

Another option, a dealer can download and print one out and bind if for you for a flat rate, somewhere between $10 and $15. It's cheap and can be completed in 30 minutes.

20/40w is what to use if your up north where it is a bit colder you could run 10/40w

I run 20/40 with some power oil additive. Extends the life of your oil

I have an 82 400r maxim- looking to possibly re-bore cyls for new pistons, and put new rod bearings. Got ant info on doing this? Where to get parts, how to do the job, etc.. also, it calls for 20-40, is that really nessasary?

Is 20/40 really necessary? Not if you live in very warm environment plain 40 wt will do fine in So Cal, Arizona and the southerns states that stay warm year round. You can also use 10/30 if you are in a cooler climate.

Ebay has some parts, and bearings are available at your local bike shop just take the old one with you and match it up.

You can purchase a 1982-83 XS400J/RJ interactive service manual CD that details how to remove and replace rod bearing and pistons.
