Location of gas shut-off valve for kitchen stove
I am installing a new gas line and shut-off valve for my kitchen stove. Can the shut-off be located behind the stove, or does it have to be more accessible? I've tried to reference this in the 2007 CA Bldg Codes, but what a maze they are!
    Thanks...

Behind the stove is very common. Below the floor if the pipe is acessible is better. That's the good news, bad news is CA is know for codes which no othet state has. As your building inspector for his his read on the CA codes. What type of piping are uyou using: black or CSST?

Not sure what CSST is, but I'm guessing that's it, because it's not black! It's galvanized, 1/2". Do you know where I'd find it listed in the code?

We routinely install gas valve inside the cabinet, next to the stove. We drill 2" hole through the cabinet and connect stove with gas flex.

If you run your gas line behind the stove, make sure you position it so it doesn't keep stove too far away from the wall. Locate the cavity in the stove and put valve in that location. If it is Wolf or Viking, valve has to be not higher then 6" from the floor. Otherwise, use 90 degree valve. It takes less space.

Now a question: how many Btu's does your stove has that you are using 1/2" gas line ?

CSST is the yellow coated corregated gas pipe. Galvanized gas pipe doesn't sound right, not code by me because the zinc flakes off. Was this house built prior to 1940?
