if you want to find the value of K you have to isolate the value by doing operations on both side of the equation. It's a simple problem so you have to try a little harder. One hint - K is negative.

    K is the variable.

    5k + 18 = -7
    -18 -18 [add negative plus a negative]

    \5k = -25/ [negative divided by a positive = a negative]
    5 5
    ___________
    k = -5

**to check your answer place the -5 where the variable k is. Let's do it together.

5(-5)+ 18 =-7 [remember your order of operations.
    1.) parenthesis
    2.) exponents
    3.) mulitiply
    4.) divide
    5.) add
    6.) subtract
**to remember: the first letter in each word is
    PEMDAS <that's how I remember.

    -25 + 18 = -7 [-25 + 18 = -7]

    -7 = -7

    Now you know you're correct!

    Hope this helped!
