    Music 's Lover
    Hello!

    Well..

I ve been playing the violin for 8 years and I ve taught myself to play the guitar and the piano..
I write songs and I sing..

I'm a very shy person but I have played some of my songs to friends of mine and my parents (who are very harsh when it comes to critisism).
Now, my parents (like the majority of parents, don t want me get involved to the music business and they want me to focus on my studies -political sciences- and let go of this dream of mine until I graduate)..

I know I'm getting boring and I'm sorry but I believe these details are essential.

My friends tell me I have a very beautiful voice and they ask of me to play my songs for them (a friend of mine had even shivered)

The question (at last!) is.. what do I do?
I'm not from US nor Britain..

My lyrics are written in english but.. how could I promote my work?

It s not for the fame or the money believe it or not,
It might sound snobish but.. I just feel like my songs need to be listened (it sounds weird but I can t really explain this feeling otherwise)

That s it then! What do I do?

I feel a lot how you say you feel about music. I've taught myself everything that I play (guitar, mandolin, banjo, piano, drums, harmonica, and many many more! I love to write and sing and play any instrument I can get my hands on. I love learning new instruments.

    First of all, PROMOTE YOURSELF!!

I would start by recording a 5 song or so cd. However many you feel comforatable with. If you don't have a music program, I suggest using mixcraft(try a demo on Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com). It's very easy to figure out. And would be easy for you to-if you've taught yourself how to play all those instruments then your very smart!

Mixcraft is really cool because if you play by yourself but want to add yourself playing the guitar and playing the piano and singing, you can combine it all in one song.

Make as many copies of the cd as you can. Play at local places and bring your friends so they can cheer you on. Leave copies of the cd here and there. Word of mouth is VERY powerful.

Make YouTube videos of yourself playing.

Start a myspace music page, as well as a Facebook one.

    PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE!

As far as your family not supporting you, it doesn't matter. Some people don't get the power of music or the emotion that can come from creating something that comes from your heart. And for those people I feel sorry for them. It's the second greatest feeling (love is 1st)

I wish you luck and hope that you go with where your heart leads you!

    Hi, terry-heart!

    Good ideas from dazedandconfused2010 above!

If you're not in the United States or Great Britain, where are you located, please?

Promotion of what you do could happen very easily on the local level. As far as going beyond that, it would depend on what you really want to do with your music.

For more information about me, please read my profile.

    Thanks!

dazedandconfused2010 - thank you so very much! I ll try that program and follow your advice!! I ll put myself out there!
You really gave me the courage to do that!
    Bless you! =)

    Clough -- I'm from Greece..
It s a small country and when it comes to local singers, the majority of them end up singing in bars (where you can t breath due to the lack of oxygen, everybody s smokin in there) and specifically women don t wear any clothes to "promote" themselves..
That s something I d never do.. It s against my beliefs and my ethics.

What kinds of music have you written and like to perform, terry-heart?

    Thanks!

Well... rock, pop-rock, alternative, metal, pop, dance..

I don t really think about genres.. I write the lyrics and then I ll add the music! It depends on my mood.

I'm not very precise, I know.. sorry for that..

    Oh, I read your profile!

I'm amazed! You seem to be quite a "homo-universalis" really..
    Admirable!
