So I'm in the process of trying to connect my computer to my older television so I can watch movies and view document via my TV screen. I have a dell e310 with the factory intel gma driver. I was wondering if any one can tell me if I can use a vga to rca cable to connect these devices or will I have to buy a new graphics card. Any advice or help wpuld be awesome

The resolution on your monitor must be 640 x 480 for NTSC video to work.

I was thinking of using a vga to RCA adapter for video, and a audio why splitter for sound I'm just not sure if my graphics device will work for TV out . I don't have an s video out port just vga. I'm just kind of confused on the equipment I need and I had rather make the video card upgrade first if that is needed rather then waste my time with the converters and cables that may not work because my graphics card is incompatible, but I haven't been able to find a lot of information on this.

As long as you can convince your graphics card to output 640 x 480 your going to be fine and you can test that without any adapter or TV.

A simple cable won't do.

The results may be less than expected because of the 640 x 480 resolution. The 640 x 480 is within the old NTSC standard.

When you say RCA, I'm assuming that means composite video (red, white and yellow jacks). I was researching this recently to connect a laptop to a small portable projector. While there are VGA to composite adapters, they are pricey (in the $200 range).

Composite adaptors are cheap you can get them practically anywhere for for less than 20$ it's the vga to composite converter boxes that are expensive. That was not really the question in issue for me , but rather if the vga to composite adapter cable would produce a picture with any kind of quality or if it was imperative to have the signal filtered through a cenverter/amplification box .
