It tells the story of a young director who falls in love with a woman in a large american city, possibly New York. After a while they have a falling out and she moves to France, and his life falls apart without her. He can't find the will to work, walking off the set of his movie, etc. Eventually, he goes to France to pursue her, and the movie ends without them getting back together. The main character looks back on their time together fondly and says that nobody will ever be as special to him as her. The female characters name might have been stella, but I'm uncertain due to the lack of luck with my IMDB searching. From what I remember of the film style and quality I can't imagine it being any older than 1990.
