    To save space
What Is The Best, Safe, Efficient, Yet Inexpensive Way To Back Up All My Music (approx. 2700 Songs) And Movies (approx.220 Movies) Without Using Any Computer Space And Can Be Easily Retrieved To Transfer To My Ipod. Considering That Copying Them To A Cd-r Or Dvd-r Is The Only Possible Way, Is There A Way To Condense, Perhaps Zip The Files On To The Cd-r Or Dvd-r To Save On Disk Space Eliminating The Large Quantity Of Disks In Order To Fulfill The Needs Of This Project.

Mp3 files are already compressed about as far as they can be.

For things like this I suggest a 2nd hard drive. You can get small (20GB or so) hard drives real cheap - and if you want to make it portable, just buy a $20 case for it to turn it into an external hard drive.

Assuming you already have a DVD burner, then that would be your most inexpensive option. But the best option is what Rick suggested. Get an USB external drive. You should be able to add up the file sizes for your collection and determine how big a drive you need.
