I have a Mixet faucet and am attempting to get the Volume Control Handle off. I unscrewed the screw in the front. I could not get the handle off by hand. I took the back of the screwdriver and beat it a little in-case there was some calcium or rust build up, but the handle will not budge.

Is this cause it's pressed on there?

It Gets stuck due to calcium or rust build up, apply some WD-40 into the screw hole let it soaked for a few minutes and try if not then you would need the puller, good luck.

If I am not mistaken, the handle on Mixet faucet has its own screw located on the side. The screw itself is screwed in diagonally.

Yes it's the top one with the MRM-MET.

I got it off this weekend. SCORE!

I sprayed some penetrating oil in it and then banged it a little with the back of the screw driver then twisted and pried on all sides. I did make sure not to pry too hard cause I didn't want to break anything.

It just fell off after working with it for about 5 or 10 min... to be honest I did it while I was taking a shower. Hehe

Milo Dolezal I see what you are talking about. It screw is on the back of the MLK-MET. I got a small mirror (thanks to my 8-year-old daughter) and there is a screw coming down the handle. I messed with it a little, but I didn't want to strip it.

I'm thinking about soaking it in CLR?? And then attempting to unscrew it.

You are so right... A word of caution

Make sure you unscrew the screw all the way (make sure it falls out)
Also there is a snap ring in the front holding the plastic plastic piece on. It might be hard to see under the corrosion.

I unscrewed this screw (I thought all the way) and pried on the handle a little. I really didn't put much force at all and I broke the plastic piece.

When I turned it around I noticed the screw wasn't out all the way.

So I unscrewed it a little. Then I felt resistance... then unscrewed it a little more... and so on until it was out.

Next to take off the valve... that should be fun... do I need to use the same model when I replace or can I use a different one?
I'll ask the dude at the plumbing supply store.

Let me ask this why did you want to remove the handle for?

Now that it is removed it is your choice if you replace t with same model or if some one from the plumbing supply store show you something better, but I would suggest to use the same brand, also wait what does Milo recommends he is the master, Thanks.

If you want to remove entire valve than you have a choice of any new valve you wish to put in. It is quiet a work to replace - but it can be done. Especially if you have copper pipes and will use small Delta or Moen body.

But, you can replace the cartridge and trim only. This way , you will have new looking and functioning faucet - but it will look just about the same as the old one.

I wanted to remove the handle cause I want to replace the faucet. One bathroom is leaking all the time and my shower leaks hot water when it's turned on.

I figured since I'm going to replace it I could get a better one.

WD-40 in the screw hole and on the valve spindle and a couple of small hits with a hammer got the flow adjustment handle (first handle) off.
