Maybe could have put this in relationships because it kind of is one. Between dr. and patient one. Is it all right for a dr. to lie to you regarding why a test is being given? Is it all right for them to lie to you about anything? They don't want you to lie to them about anything but seems okay for them.

Of course, it's NOT OK for anybody to lie to anybody else. It might even be illegal. You're paying for a service (a diagnosis), and you're given something else. That's fraud. If your doctor is doing that, and you don't like it, sue him, or change doctors. It's certainly OK to ask your doctor to tell you the truth. I expect truth from MY doctor. In fact, I PAY for it.

Read YOUR Post... YOU are claiming the Dr is essentually lying about everything to you. I know a lot of physicians... on a personal level, one since he entered Medical school over 20 years ago.

I know of NO physician that LIES to his patients... they don't have the time to do it... they don't have a reason to do it. Lies take far more effort and time than being truthful. Doctors are on the whole... a very busy bunch without the time to waste on fabricating lies.

YOU on the other hand apparently believe that's exactly what they are doing... and have offered no proof that they are.

Sorry, but that IS the definition of paranoia...

Believing "They are out to get me, I just can't prove it...but I know they are..." is a pretty clear symptom of an abnormal thought process.

Yeah the people suffering from it really do believe its happening... but that doesn't mean it is...

I stand by my assessment... if you like it or not doesn't matter.

What was the test? Why did he say he was giving it? How do you know he lied?

I bet the doctor wanted to take him off some of the meds and he does not like the idea.

I too wonder if there is only one doctor prescribing you these painkillers. I know the game, all too well. This doctor must be responsible, because he is testing you. Why would a responsible doctor top off Oxycontin, with Oxycodone? Oxycontin is time released oxycodone.

Why the worry about failing the test? Taking too many? Like I said , I know how it happens. It happened to me. Narcotics got a little too important to me too. But I am clean now.

Before you insult a respected member here, you should look at the root of your problem. No one HERE is going to take your beloved narcotics.

If you are taking them as prescribed by only ONE doctor, then by all means please accept my apology. But, if you are asking if we smell a lie, then yes, someone in this relationship is lying to the other. And it doesn't sound like the testER.

I bet they are prescription shopping by going to different doctors to get more drugs by gaming the system by keeping each the doctors from knowing about the others prescriptions thus resulting in over prescribing.

Only here one doctor is smarter than the rest and wants to run tests to prove what he suspects.

We still haven't seen ANY evidence by the OP that the doctor is lying other than unsubstantiated accusations which from other threads seem to indicate is made by someone who is hooked on their medications... or worse even if they aren't, they are worried about the Golden Goose being taken away because possibly the excess are being sold on the street. Which is NOT at all uncommon based upon availibility of these on the street.

I did not state that this Dr. is lying to me about everything. Let me explain better maybe then you can have a better understanding of what happened. When I went in for a test eariler in the month The Dr. stated that the test would be in on the 15th. When I went in on that date the Dr. said that tests results were not in and would not be in until the18th. So I had to have another test done on the 15th. When I looked at the computer I seen that the tests were in on the 15th and I asked the M.A. to print these out for me so I could see them better. She did that and test were in normal range. That is not what I was concerned about I wanted to see exactly when these test results came in because they are very expensive tests. Every test is $1904.00. My ins. Company thought I was termilly ill and they are concerned that I may have to pay for these and so am I. That is why I asked this question.

So this is a billing question. I think I owe you an apology. As far as the Doctor's knowledge of whether test results are in or not, I would ask the M. A. before I saw the Dr. just in case the results came in between the Doc seeing your chart and seeing you.

Also while the tests were in, did the doctor have someone else that would look and determine ( read ) them.

Just as in a x-ray, the doctor often has his copy but has a outside company read it and give him a report about it.

OK, that totally changes what everyone understood by what you wrote in the original post, because that's not at all what you said earlier. We have to work from what information you provide. That's why enough information is critical.

Here is what I want to know... if the Dr. said the test results would be in by the 18'th... who pushed to have a second round of tests done. And why was it that important to have done a second time inside the window the results were due back.

And keep in mind... being received on the 15th... doesn't mean the doctor saw them or even knew about them on the 15th. THey would have been received and posted by other staff members, not your doctor. He may not have been aware they arrived until later that day (after your appointment) or even the next day depending on their office procedures, and his patient load.

Without adding any opinion. Look up "hippocratic oath", "physician patient relationship" and "medical ethics".

Doctors can lie and sometimes they do. Doctors are not more virtuous than other people. Some are wonderful upright people; others are liars and crooks. It depends on how they were brought up and what their motives are. But yes, doctors can lie. Is it legal to mislead patients? I would think it would depend on the circumstances.

I strongly recommend obtaining a copy of your medical records to see what this particular doctor is saying about you. That will give you a clue where you stand with him.

When I got my records, I was amazed at how different doctors talked about me, some respectfully and others not respectfully at all, some claiming to have talked to me about things they hadn't--clearly to cover themselves because they realized they should have told me things they didn't. One doctor wrote that I'd injured my neck in an auto accident after I went to her about a minor shoulder injury I got while swinging my two year old son. I guess she confused me with another patient. Why would she make up such a bizarre story? At least one of my doctors definitely lied about a conversation with me.

Doctors are NOT perfect.

I heard a story about a baby doctor who worked before amniocentesis. He told mothers that he could predict the sex of the baby. When the woman came in pregnant, the doctor would say "It will be a boy [or girl]." Then in his notebook, he wrote down the opposite sex. On delivery day, if the baby was a boy [or girl], the mother would compliment him on being right. If the doctor was wrong, she'd bring it up and he would tell her she misremembered what he'd said and show the notebook where he wrote down the other sex. She'd go away confused and doubting herself, because the doctor lied to her. This doctor bragged about doing this to my father (who thought it was funny).

Could someone lie about the purpose of a test? I don't see why not. In most cases, the only record of your meeting is the doctor's. Take a friend with you who will take notes. And order your records to see what they say. And find a doctor you trust.
