There is an acrid stench in my Master Bathroom that I can't fathom. The water pressure is low, and the drains are all a little slow, but it's always been that way. The house is 8 yrs old and the bathroom has a shower stall, whirlpool tub, single basin vanity and toilet. I was going to try using Draino in all the drains but the directions say not for use in toilets. I guess Liquid Plumber would work for that but I also remember my Mother using baking soda to sweeten drains. We were away for a few days and I noticed the smell soon after our return. I don't think it's a dead mouse in the wall. Do you have any suggestions?

Usually, cause of smell is bacteria that accumulates inside your shower drain. Pour in mixture of vinegar and baking soda to kill it. Flush well. See if that helps.

Right ingredients but they must go in order. Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup table salt, dump into the drain. Now add a cup of vinegar and step back. Allow to sit over night and then dump several buckets of very hot water down the drain, smell better now?

I have another that you might try.
Most bad odors in bathroom drains come from rotting hair mixed with grease from the soap. Try this. Shine a light down there and with a bent coathanger fish out any hair that may be hiding down there. Then pour a 1/2 gal. of bleach down into the trap and let it set over night. Next morning flush the mess down with 2 large pans of boiling water, (this is important). The bleach will dissolve the hair and make it slippery and the boiling water will melt the grease and get the mess out of your drain. Smell better now? Cheers TOM
