I can be working at my desk on the computer and my 9 month old cat will hop up on desk and attack me for no apparent reason, ears back, eyes dialated. I try to grab her to put on ground and she attacks my arm (bites really hard with sharp teeth) then she jumps back up again and tries a few more times till she gets tired of me throwing her back on the ground. I try to calm her and pet her, but when she is in this mood it doesn't work.

She's a kitten. She's just playing with you. Don't worry she will outgrow it in a few months. She's more likely to do this if she doesn't have any another kitty companions.

Have you tried distracting her? Keep a laser pointer nearby and see if she'll chase that, instead.

If that doesn't work, then use an alternate form of punishment. Squirt bottles almost always work to discipline cats. Just squirt when she attacks.

Do NOT try to calm her down by petting her when she does this. You're basically rewarding her bad behavior. She attacks, you give her love and attention, so she attacks again to get more love and attention. In order for her to learn that this is NOT appropriate behavior, it needs to be discouraged and punished. Being dropped on the floor isn't punishment, it's just a relocation.
