I have a year old Pekingese/Jack Russel, and lately he is chewing everything, and getting into A LOT of trouble. I'm assuming this is because of boredom. He goes on a walk everyday, and plays outside with our other 2 dogs (He can't be out long or he jumps the fence). He gets a lot of "Cuddle Time", but I'm wondering if there is something we can do together?
I was thinking agility or obedience?
Do you think he could do okay in agility (is there any heath problems with the type of dog he is, etc)
And for obedience, he is EXTREMELY stubborn.. but any other suggestions?

Agility or obedience would be a great idea.
I can't really help you with health problems, as mixed breeds are pretty unpredictable in what they have/haven't inherited from their parents. Pekes can have breathing problems, but the Jack may have taken that out of him... hard to say, you would have to make a judgment call on whether hard exercise is OK for your dog.

I would recommend enrolling in obedience or agility classes just to get you started and to learn the basics on how to train your dog to perform in these events, then after you learn the basics you can fine tune them at home.

Agility equipment is easy to make and set up in your own backyard, if you would like some details on home-made equipment just let me know.

If he hasn't had a yearly check-up yet, you might consult his vet about possible health problems. The vet would have a better idea of what he inherited from mom and dad.

Obedience is always a great thing to do with a dog. It is the basis of so many other things like agility or 'dancing' and teaching him tricks.

The main thing is to find what he will work for (treats, toys, praise, etc.) and use that to help train him.

Hello, he has had his yearly check up but I doubt his vet would mind me asking, she is a wonderful person. I think he needs his rabies again in June though. He also has done basic obedience and I didn't find it fun, where as agility is more of a game. He seems to be fine running around with the other dogs, he doesn't have the squished in nose so I doubt the breathing will be an issue. Is there anything else you can think of that we could check out?

I have a tremendous amount of fun with obedience training. Of course, I have velcro dogs so getting my undivided attention for twenty whole minutes at a time is pure bliss for them. Did you get a chance for one-on-one training with him much or was it all group work?

As for agility, what does he think about frisbees? That's an aspect of agility training a Jack should go nuts over.

He never has played with an actual frisbee, but tennis balls, his kong, you name it he'll play with it for hours and hours! For his obedience it was mostly group work, but occasionally if she thought your dog wasn't doing something right (or if you weren't) you'd have a one-on-one session. He seems to get very bored if it's obedience, he'd rather be running around playing with things. He is also EXTREMELY fast, whenever someone comes over I always hear a comment about how fast he is, also if he is jumping a 4 foot fence, well he can jump. This past summer I set up little fence things and got him to jump over them, even after I went inside he was still jumping over them, would go back to the beginning and start jumping them again.

It sounds like he might enjoy flyball.
