Seat Belt Broken - Will Not Retract
I am trying to help my mother. She has a Toyota Camry 2006. The driver’s side seat belt will not retract back. How can I fix this? Is it fixable and if so, what will I need to purchase?

    Thanks in advance,
    Scotty

The entire retraction mechanism which will come with the seat belt. I had to replace one once on a 2-dr car.

I was hoping maybe I would be able to fix it myself. She called the local Toyota dealer a few weeks ago and they said that they don’t fix broken seat belts. Maybe I should try and contact them again.

    Thanks, Scotty

I think this is a safety issue and you should contact the NTSB or ask to speak to the service manager after getting the name of the person you talked to.

While true, you basically can't fix the mechanism, you must replace it. On my Toyota, it wasn't hard, just getting to the part. Heat degraded the springs. Had some temps over 100 deg. F and they would not retract.

Basically, I had to take the back seat out and disassemble the panels under the rear window. A few bolts to remove the mechanism and your done. Parts cost many years ago was about $100.
