I have a weatherking furnace with a honeywell s9201a control board that I think is bad. I bought an upgraded control board 62-24084-82 that requires a flame sensor 62-24044-71 be added to the furnace. The flame sensor comes with the hardware to be installed on an inshot burner or a ribbon burner but I have a barrel style furnace and the brackets do not fit anywhere on the single burner in my furnace. It also says not to install it on the burner with the HSI ignitor but there is only one burner. The pics in the instructions show multiple burners and a much different setup than what I have in my furnace. How and where can I install the flame sensor?

You might be right but the 62-24084-82 is the only board I could find that was recommended to replace the old Honeywell s9201a board. I tried to find an exact replacement but couldn't. I appreciate any ideas you could give me.

For a little more background info. The furnace has stopped repeatedly at almost every stage of the cycle multiple times. Sometimes the burner will not light at all, others it lights and goes out after 5-10 seconds then out, other times minutes then it goes out. Sometimes it never starts period or starts long after the thermostat calls for heat. If I reset sometimes it will operate fine for hours or days before shutting off again. The ignitor has been replaced but I think it went bad only because of the board. Sometimes it will come on and run good but when the heat shuts of the fan runs and never shuts off until I reset it. It's madness

Possible answer to why I can't instal the flame sensor on the burner with the ignitor is one HVAC website mentioned that the flame sensor works by receiving electrons that travel through the carbon molecules in the flame from the burner. I'm guessing that if the sensor is onlyu meant to pick up a very low voltage then being on the same burner that the ignitor is on would probably pick up too much voltage and fry the new board or some other component. Again I am only guessing. If this is true then with only one burner I cannot use the flame sensor or the new board which requires the flame sensor to operate. I also cannot get the old obsolete Honeywell s9201a board (as far as I know) which means I am up a creak without a paddle unless someone has another idea?

Hopefully this will help anyone who might be having problems with their furnace. I am not an HVAC Pro. That being said, when I took my furnace apart to add this flame sensor I was amazed at how simple and low tech it was. While I could not install the flame sensor I took the liberty to do a thorough cleaning job while it was apart and when I put it back together and fired it up it ran like a top. A friend asked an HVAC buddy of his about what I had going on and he said 90% of furnace problems come from the furnace or some part needing to be cleaned properly, (aka proper mainenance.) I hope to God this was the whole problem from the get go and if so, I have learned a good lesson. Maybe the trouble shooting guide should have asked if the furnace has been cleaned lately before it goes into checking other parts or recommending the IFC be replaced. Do it yourself, but do it right. Anyone need a control board and flame sensor?
