What is the average density of human ashes?

After the cremation process, large bones such as femurs are left whole and will not disintegrate in the high heat. There are always clumps and if the deceased had metal parts inserted to repair bones, etc. they are there as well. I don't know the average density but would weigh less then 5 lbs. and could be contained in something smaller then a shoe box.

You could ask a funeral director if this is for a school project.

    I hope this helped.

I just received my dad's ashes and the funeral director made a comment that because he was 'a big guy' his ashes wouldn't fit into one urn. He was 6'3" and around 230 and his two boxes weigh at least 35 lbs!
