I have a terrible sewer smell in my bathroom. It started when the weather got really cold a day or so ago. I think it is coming from the bathtub drain. All of my drains are running very well but a new issue developed when I flush the toilet. You can hear it sucking the water out of the pea trap when you flush. What would cause this and what should I do? I am a single mama with no man around the house so please help!

You're going to need a man to go up on the roof and snake out the lavatory vent pipe. This is why you have sewer gas coming out of the bathtub drain. The trap seal has been lowered to the point of not sealing the drain.
This may help, Most bad tub and lavatory smells are caused by rotting hair matted with grease from the soap. Try this. Tonight before you go to bed pour 1/2" gallon of bleach down the drain. Next morning flush the bleach out with, (and this is important) two large pans of boiling water. The bleach will start to dissolve the hair and the boiling water will melt the grease and flush the mess out. But to maintain a seal in the trap, every time you flush run some water in the tub to replace any that's lost.
EXCEPT when you put bleach down the drain. Leave it there overnight. Good luck, Tom

Thanks Tom I will try the bleach thing tonight... and does that mean I still need someone to snake out the lavatory vent pipe? Or will the problem be fixed with bleach? Or just allieviated for the meantime?

Your vent's clogged and will have to be snaked. I gave you the bleach t6hingy tohelp with the smell. Regards, Tom
