A lot of puppies do this and they often grow out of it in time.
You can try adding a little meat tenderizer or pineapple to his food (if eh will eat it) that supposedly deters them from eating their poop, but the simple solution is to just pick it up as soon as he goes.
Cheaper, too.
Some behaviorists will argue that this means the puppy doesn't feel secure in his environment. Personally I don't think they're wolves so I don't put much faith in that argument. Puppies check out everything with their mouths and they normally do grow out of it.
Eating poop is a natural behavior that is seen in dogs. The mother dog will eat her puppies feces to keep their nest clean. If she never stops picking up after them, they start to pick up after her and learn that habit.
Excessive poop eating is where I start to get concerned. Puppies will typically grow out of poop eating, but if it becomes a habit then you're going to have to find alternatives. Because this is a puppy, try to deter the pup from eating poop to chewing on a bone or playing with a toy. Any time you see him taste it, correct him and give him something he can have.
Well thank you all for the help so I went to a pet store and I found out the he might be eating his poop because the food that I'm giving him is lacking, and I saw worms in his poop sothe lady in the store told me that those worms might be because of fleas so I'm checking up on the I'm changing food and taking him to the vet to see what he has...
I wouldn't be so quick to believe the 'lacking something' argument.
It has never been proven, and in my opinion it doesn't make a great deal of sense. Pet stores love it though because they can sell you a more expensive food.
What are you currently feeding?
Worms can be picked up in many different ways, but fleas can certainly give them to your dog. Again, be wary of them trying to push products on you but I do believe a monthly flea preventative is a good idea anyway.
Yes I like revolution it's cheap and it does the trick. Prevents against fleas and worms. Although you may need to get him treated for more then one type of worm. You may not have to actually bring your dog into the vet, you can go in and purchase the meds over the counter so to speak. Stay away from flea collars, and flea baths. Go to your vet and get the proper treatment for your size of dog.
