We recently switched our puppy from pedigree puppy chow to a different food called cambless soup for the puppies soul and it makes her verry gassy and stinky is there any sugestions on why this is happeneing, because I don't understand the other stuff is supposted to be better for her because it has meat and fish and not corn or bi products any suggestions would be GREAT:)

The food you switched to is supposed to be fantastic, but perhaps it just didn't agree with your puppies stomach.
Did you switch over to the new food gradually?
It is recommended to change to a new food over a period of 4 days.

Yea we acctually did it way more gradually then that the guy at the store said to mix a little in at a time until the old food runs out then she would be used to it by now. I also heard that if the dog gets TOO MUCH protein it can case exess gass is that true?

I've heard of too much protein causing tear staining, and fast growth but not gas... I could be wrong though.

My mom has a Great Dane that gets horrible, horrible gas. To the point where you have to leave the room.
The only food he can be fed is Pal Natural. Not the best brand but it's the only one that agrees with his stomach.

You might have to play around with his food for a while until you find one that is right for him.
Some pet stores sell small sample bags of food for this reason.
Don't go throwing out the Chicken soup one though, you can still mix it in with a different food until it's used up (I hate wasting food)

Me too its like throwing money away.Im going to have to play around because her gas is about to the point were you have to leave the room just yesterday we were walking outside and I could still smell it like I was in a close door room with her geeze. And since your so helpful do you mind answering this How much food should a 30 LB dog be getting daily?

I have a 24lb poodle and he gets about 1/2 cup dry food and 400g canned food daily.

So If you are only feeding dry I would say about 1 1/2 - 2 cups dry daily.
It will very though depending on your dogs metabolism.
Some dogs can eat 2 cups a day and become obese, others can eat the same amount and be underweight, it's a guessing game.

Run your hand down your dogs back with your thumb on one side and fingers on the other. You should be able to easily feel the last 2 ribs. This is a good indication of healthy weight.
You should also be able to see the 'waist' of your dog dipping in slightly from the body.

OH my goodness thank you for telling me this because we were WAY over feeding her like 4 and a half cups a day and I was wondering why she wasn't eating it all. I weighed her the other day and she weight 29 lbs and now my boyfriend thinks she should be eating 4 cups a food beacsue that's what the back of the bag says jeesh was he wrong I will have to correct that immedeatly so we don't have a rollie pollie pup on our hands thank you so much you are so helpful!

I never go off what it says on the bag ;)
I also prefer to keep my dogs on the lean side rather than heavier, especially when they are puppies.
Too much weight as a pup can lead to joint problems, plus it's just healthier for them to be slim. Same as people, if you are carrying a bit of extra weight (like me :o) it can lead to health issues.

Yea I feel so bad for dogs when you see them and your first thought is awe you need a walk big guy! Hahaha BTW your signature made me go see what a cavoodle is there kind of cute but yea I can see were people just mixing breeds can cause serious health problems. Bully breeds are actually gassier then other breeds. It could have been the change in diet, but with the omega oils you are thinking of adding will help with that as well. Does she get table scraps? Some human foods don't digest very well in the canine system, and can cause vapours, just like in humans. Some dogs are also lactose intolerant, resulting in noxious fumes after consuming dairy.On the other hand A teaspoon of low-fat yogurt with each meal will reduce internal gas, thanks to the bacterial cultures in yogurt. Eating too fast can cause gas as well.
There are grasses and wheats you can add as well which helps with internal smells!

Haha Aurora_bell... I totally know what you mean when you say Bullies are gassy.

As for the pup.. a lot of times when you swith from bad food to higher quality food it does take some time for the digestive system to transition. For that puppies life, the food was probably harder to digest.

Imagine it as eating candy for days on end then sitting down to a salad... garanteed you wouldn't feel good and would probably be gassy yourself.

Give the pup time. If you find there is no improvement, find a food that agrees with your puppies tummy. A lot of pet food stores are very understand and will work with you. I would suggest buying the smaller bags instead of a large one. You will see a difference in stinky dogs almost immediately.

Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul, Puppy is a wonderful food. Ive heard a lot of good stuff about that brand.

Yea that's why we bought it its this great place we heard about. And the people we heard it from switched their dog from a puriena brand to a more nutritional brand too and their dog was gassy and it was a lab so maybe it is the switch to higher quality food.
So hopefully my dog doesn't have abnormal gas hooray!
