Just finished cleaning the idle mixture, started right up drove better than it ever has then few miles down the road the check engine light comes on, I pull over shut off the engine then after finding nothing visible try to start the motor but won't start.

Engine light on is a good thing telling the computer that it is communicating and has power. Did you check the fuses?
