Yes, many web pages have many different scripts/elements in them. In fact, nowadays, less and less web pages are html only.

As for performance, things such as flash, swish, animations, etc. can certainly decrease the performance overall.

What you use on your webpage is all about what you want to do. What type of website do you want to do - and what features does it need to have?

    Hi there,

As said earlier, you can use many different types of languages on an HTML page.

If you are thinking about what to study in order to get into web development, I would say that these are the tools you need:

    HTML/CSS
PHP/basic mySQL (for interactivity, such as forms, quizzes, etc)
Javascript (Not as important as the two above)

I happen to love Flash and its programming language, Actionscript-- and the motion and interactivity of flash can be quite cool. You can also use php to interact with flash to make some really awesome dynamic pages.

Good luck! Don't hesitate to ask more questions about what you should learn in web development. When I was starting I really could have used some help.
