Why is my electricity bill so high?
    Hello,
I am at my wits end. My electricity bill is way too high. I live in a mobile home and when I DO NOT have a/c and heat on my bill is an average of $175. I've been here 8 years and I have had enough. I called an electrician once too look at the outside utility pole and feeders. He said they looked OK but didn't test anything. He looked at my electrical boxes inside and out but didn't test anything. The way electricity is hooked up here, it looks like, 4 homes are visibly "tied in" to the overhead lines. By "tied In" I mean they are ran from the pole in my back yard to the electrical lines in back. Why is it like that and could that be a part of the problem? One time the utility co. came out and was working on them and I asked what happened and they said someone reported sparks and then he said those lines were never tied in right and were dangerous. I thought maybe that would be the end of my high light bills but they still continue. Any suggestions?

Are you on a single payer meter? If you are then call the utility company and have them come out for a energy audit. Its hard to say why exactly it is so high without knowing exactly what is going on.

Check for loose connections or hot breakers. I found a loose wire on a water heater not long ago that overheated the breaker. Changed it out and the guys bill dropped $80 the next month. Have someone competent check the connections at the meter and panel as well, if a lug or bus got hot the high resistance connection can cause the same thing. Check that both water heater elements work, lose or stab-wired device connections (rec/switches), bad ballasts with power still on them... all sorts of things can cause this. Find a more thourough electrician. If any rec are brown or have loose blades, replace them.
